VisualME - Webserver Configuration

VisualME

This is all the information your web hosting or IT services provider needs to configure your web server. Just send them a link to this page. The entire process can usually be completed in one day.

VisualME is typically deployed on an IIS web server to a dedicated directory structure under your web site's root directory.

VisualME consists of Active Server Pages and XML files which connect to a SQL Server database on a database server.  The web and database servers can be shared (e.g. servers that host other businesses or systems). Database security is managed by SQL Server.

VisualME can also be deployed on a Apache web server under UNIX

Not sure what environment your web site is running on today?  Enter your URL here, and we'll check for you dynamically using Netcraft's web service:

Windows IIS Server Checklist

  • Approximately 15-20MB of available web server storage. 50MB total (VisualME and your web site) is usually enough for a typical small business web site and VisualME.
  • Standard FTP access to the web server
  • SQL Server Database, with a single database defined, and no more than 20 MB of disk space initially. Database size may grow over time, depending on your activity and use. We will access and maintain the database using SQL Server Enterprise Manager from our local desktop environment, and using Active Server Pages, VBScript and ADO (Active Data Objects) from your web server.
  • DSN connection between the Web Server and SQL Server Database
  • Either CDO or ASP Mail capabilities to generate emails from Active Server Pages on the web site
These requirements are usually standard capabilities of an IIS web server, and need only be enabled. Your arrangement for the SQL Server Database should also provide for regular backup on a daily basis, since that is a normal service of database hosting.

Security

VisualME operates in a highly secure environment. All access and maintenance requires the entry of a sign-in name and password.  VisualME also operates using a 128-bit SSL encryption environment if you so desire.  SSL requires you to obtain a Secure Site Certificate to be installed on your web site (we can't do this for you).  SSL Secure Site Certificates are available from several suppliers, including VeriSign, EBIZID, and Thawte.
